Top 20 Most Valuable F1 Cards - Price Guide & Checklist

Ready for an overview of the most valuable Formula 1 racing cards? Well, on your marks set, go! Those are the delightful puns we will try to avoid in the rest of this article. Racing cards, and the F1 variation, in particular, have enjoyed an immense popularity boost as part of the COVID-19 sports card bubble. However, the increased value and popularity of these Formula 1 cards have remained high. Indeed, the other racing cards pale in comparison to their F1 counterparts. For example, the most valuable NASCAR cards are worth a fraction of the items at the top of this list. For example, the highest recorded sale for a NACSAR card was a $6,000 transaction involving a 1997 Maxx ‘88 Redemption Dale Earnhardt Autograph /100 BGS 9. Meanwhile, some F1 cards sell for hundreds of thousands.
The remarkable Lewis Hamilton vs. Max Verstappen rivalry has ignited the sport. The two are among the best drivers ever seen. Many experts believe that Hamilton is the best driver ever seen, and Max is in the top five. Therefore, this is an exciting time for racing cards.
So, which are the most valuable F1 cards ever? Gentleman, start your…. never mind. Here are the 20 most valuable F1 racing cards ever sold.

20. 2005 Futera Grand Prix Michael Schumacher SDM11

A PSA 8 sold for $3,900.

Michael Schumacher was considered the most significant Formula One driver ever until Lewis Hamilton came along. This beautiful card juxtaposes the driver's powerful gaze and his beautiful car. At these prices, this card is a steal.

A PSA 8 sold for $8,500

Zhou Guanyu is setting tracks ablaze for Alpha Romeo. Though he has not won any championships yet, Guayanu’s meteoric rise in 2022 has many tongues wagging. Therefore, this beautiful Rookie Patch Auto has already sold for an impressive price.

2020 Topps Chrome Sapphire Formula 1 Padparadscha 1/1 Alpha Tauri Logo 2020 Topps Chrome Sapphire Formula 1 Padparadscha 1/1 Alpha Tauri Logo

A PSA 10 has a value of $10,000.

The 2020 Topps Chrome F1 release is so beloved, that all the big cards from it are worth significant money. Especially, the 1/1’s. So, this striking team logo one of a kind will likely go for a very good price. Only the Italians can design a logo this sleek.

17. 2020 Topps Dynasty Formula 1 F1 Kimi Räikkönen Logo Glove Patch 1/1

2020 Topps Dynasty Formula 1 F1 Kimi Räikkönen Logo Glove Patch 1/12020 Topps Dynasty Formula 1 F1 Kimi Räikkönen Logo Glove Patch 1/1

A PSA 10 is worth around $10,000.

Kimi Räikkönnen is one of the best racers of his generation, owning the sixth-most podium finishes and third-most fastest laps in Formula One history. His dry personality has hurt the Finnish racers’ collectability somewhat. But his achievements speak for themselves.

16. 2021 Topps Dynasty Formula 1 Yuki Tsunoda Tag Patch Auto Gold #1/1

A PSA 10 has a value around $12,000.

How can anyone resist Yuki Tsunoda’s baby face? I certainly can’t. I want to pinch those cheeks. Though I doubt I would manage since he would drive away from me way too fast. The 2021 Topps Dynasty Formula 1 Yuki Tsunoda Tag Patch Auto Gold #1/1 is the best card on the market for the up-and-coming AlphaTauri-Honda star.

15. Lando Norris 2020 Topps Dynasty Formula 1 F1 Auto Patch Gold Rookie 1/1

Lando Norris 2020 Topps Dynasty Formula 1 F1 Auto Patch Gold Rookie 1/1 Lando Norris 2020 Topps Dynasty Formula 1 F1 Auto Patch Gold Rookie 1/1

A raw card is valued at $15,000.

The Lando Norris 2020 Topps Dynasty Formula 1 F1 Auto Patch Gold Rookie 1/1 is just about the classiest-looking RPA I have ever seen. That patch is positively transcendent. Honestly, this release is generally nicer than the better-loved 2020 Topps Chrome. But no one asked me. Norris is somewhat unproven, but at 23 he has already shown enough promise to garner high card values.

14. 2020 Topps Chrome F1 Grand Prix Max Verstappen SuperFractor Rookie Card 1/1 #158

2020 Topps Chrome F1 Grand Prix Max Verstappen SuperFractor Rookie Card 1/1 #1582020 Topps Chrome F1 Grand Prix Max Verstappen SuperFractor Rookie Card 1/1 #158

A PSA 8 is valued at $30,000.
There ain’t no stopping that Max Verstappen. The best young driver to emerge in the sport since Hamilton, has an incredible selection of rookie cards. Many of which feature on this list. But the 2020 Topps Chrome F1 Grand Prix Max Verstappen SuperFractor Rookie Card 1/1 #158 is one of the most remarkably beautiful. The gold and 1/1 status only add to the pedigree. This card will likely be worth a lot more in a few years.

13. 1986 Panini Supersport Italian Ayrton Senna #31

1986 Panini Supersport Italian Ayrton Senna #31
1986 Panini Supersport Italian Ayrton Senna #31
A PSA 10 sold for $34,500.
Ayrton Senna was the greatest racer of his generation and died at age 34 in an on-track accident, with so much left to achieve in his distinguished career. The 1986 Panini Supersport Italian Ayrton Senna #31 is perhaps his most beloved rookie card. It has that beautiful junk wax feel that the best cards from the 1980s have.

12. 2022 Topps Dynasty Formula 1 F1 George Russell Nameplates 1/1 Auto

2022 Topps Dynasty Formula 1 F1 George Russell Nameplates 1/1 Auto2022 Topps Dynasty Formula 1 F1 George Russell Nameplates 1/1 Auto
A PSA 10 is valued at $70,000.

George Russell is the next big thing in the sport. The driver is young, sophisticated, good-looking, British, and one incredible driver. And F1 cards don’t get much more spectacular than this patch auto, featuring the driver's first name in all its capitalized letter glory. Anyone who saw Russell in the 2022 São Paulo Grand Prix, knows he is one to invest in.

11. 2020 Topps Dynasty F1 Charles Leclerc Ferrari Patch Auto 1/1

A raw card sold for $80,100.

Maybe it is that iconic Ferrari insignia doing the talking, but this may be the most beautiful F1 card I have ever seen. If Charles Leclerc turns into the champion he could be, the 2020 Topps Dynasty F1 Charles Leclerc Ferrari Patch Auto 1/1 card buyer has a steal on their hands.

10. 2020 Topps Chrome F1 Max Verstappen Red Refractor Rookie Autograph #MV /5

A PSA 9 sold for $90,000.

The 2020 Topps Chrome F1 Max Verstappen Red Refractor Rookie Autograph #MV /5 is an excellent card. It's an auto and red refractor design.

9. Lewis Hamilton 2020 Topps Dynasty F1 Red Patch Auto #LH /5

Lewis Hamilton 2020 Topps Dynasty F1 Red Patch Auto Lewis Hamilton 2020 Topps Dynasty F1 Red Patch Auto

A raw card sold for $90,000.

This F1 card is a beauty and is numbered low at /5. The only thing stopping the Lewis Hamilton 2020 Topps Dynasty F1 Red Patch Auto #LH /5 is that it isn’t a rookie patch auto. Nonetheless, it's one of the best Lewis Hamilton cards out there.

8. 2020 Topps Dynasty F1 Max Verstappen Rookie Patch Autograph #MV 1/1

2020 Topps Dynasty F1 Max Verstappen Rookie Patch Autograph #MV 1/1 2020 Topps Dynasty F1 Max Verstappen Rookie Patch Autograph #MV 1/1

A PSA 10 $170,400.

In basketball and football, the rookie patch auto rules supreme as the most valuable form of card. In F1 racing, it has not taken that position quite yet. However, it is just a matter of time. They are, after all, a superior form of rookie card. And the 2020 Topps Dynasty F1 Max Verstappen Rookie Patch Autograph #MV 1/1 may turn out to be the best of them all. I mean, just look at this beautiful thing.

7. 2020 Topps Chrome F1 Charles Leclerc Superfractor #4 1/1

2020 Topps Chrome F1 Charles Lecler cSuperfractor #4 1/12020 Topps Chrome F1 Charles Lecler cSuperfractor #4 1/1

A PSA 9 sold for $264,000.

Does Charles Leclerc deserve to be this high on the list? Still waiting. But a driver's potential often determines the price of cards, and this 25-year has a truckload. Or a car load. The 2020 Topps Chrome F1 Charles Leclerc Superfractor #4 1/1 also enjoys being part of a powerful release that has taken a pole position in the hobby.

6. 2006 Futera Grand Prix Lewis Hamilton #95

2006 Futera Grand Prix Lewis Hamilton #95 2006 Futera Grand Prix Lewis Hamilton #95

A PSA 9 sold for $312,000.

The older F1 cards don’t get the love they deserve. Unlike baseball, Futera was the leading company. The 2006 Futera Grand Prix Lewis Hamilton #95 gives us a glimpse of why. This quality rookie card shows the young, confident racer ready to take on the world. The Topps Chrome cards often sell for more, but that is just the considerable card bias talking. This is the more beautiful item.

5. 2020 Topps Chrome Sapphire F1 Max Verstappen Padparadscha Rookie 1/1 #6

2020 Topps Chrome Sapphire F1 Max Verstappen Padparadscha Rookie 1/1 #62020 Topps Chrome Sapphire F1 Max Verstappen Padparadscha Rookie 1/1 #6

A PSA 9 sold for $336,000.

The color here is beautiful, and we will have something to say about that mysterious shade they call Padparadscha later. As you will see, the Max Verstappen rookie cards from the iconic 2020 Topps Chrome F1 release tend to go for less than their Lewis Hamilton equivalents. However, there is no reason to assume this will continue. While Max may never overtake Lewis as the better driver, he will still be an all-time legend by the time he is through. And rookie cards are the ones that genuinely retain their value over time. So the 2020 Topps Chrome Sapphire F1 Max Verstappen Padparadscha Rookie 1/1 #6 buyer may end up far happier with their move than those who bought (and possibly overpaid for the Hamilton card).

4. 2020 Topps Chrome F1 Max Verstappen Superfractor Auto #MV 1/1

2020 Topps Chrome F1 Max Verstappen Superfractor Auto #MV 1/1 2020 Topps Chrome F1 Max Verstappen Superfractor Auto #MV 1/1

A PSA 9 sold for $534,000.

As expected, the most expensive Max Verstappen card is a 1/1 from the 2020 Topps Chrome F1 release. Unlike the Lewis Hamilton F1 cards (which still sold for more moolah), the 2020 Topps Chrome F1 Max Verstappen Superfractor Auto #MV 1/1 has an auto. Considering that they are rare in this release and that Max still has much to achieve, this card could even increase in value. Also, compare the pic here to Hamilton’s. Verstappen looks far better. Now if only he could outdo his rival where it counts.

3. 2020 Topps Chrome Sapphire F1 Lewis Hamilton Padparadscha #1 1/1

2020 Topps Chrome Sapphire F1 Lewis Hamilton Padparadscha 2020 Topps Chrome Sapphire F1 Lewis Hamilton Padparadscha
A PSA 8 sold for $740,000

What can we say? People really love Lewis Hamilton, and they also really love the 2020 Topps Chrome F1. The top two F1 cards sold are basically the same card in different colors. So, the only thing left to wonder about the 2020 Topps Chrome Sapphire F1 Lewis Hamilton Padparadscha 1/1 is this: what on earth is padparadscha? It is an ancient Sanskrit word that describes the color of a tropical lotus flower. It is today used to describe a particularly rare gemstone. How much does that beautiful stone sell for? I will tell you this. It's far cheaper than this card.

2. 2020 Topps Chrome F1 Lewis Hamilton Superfractor 1/1 #1

2020 Topps Chrome F1 Lewis Hamilton Superfractor 1/1 #12020 Topps Chrome F1 Lewis Hamilton Superfractor 1/1 #1

A PSA 7 sold for $900,000

Getting a feeling of deja vu? It wouldn’t be the first time. Get it? The sale price of this card made headlines around the world. Few people could believe that an F1 card could sell for the price of a decent house in Manhattan (ok, maybe not that decent). Just imagine if the card had been graded as a PSA 10!

The 2020 Topps Chrome F1 Lewis Hamilton Superfractor 1/1 #1 is the highlight of the release that broke F1 cards out of their niche status. Does it matter that Lewis looks creepy in the photo? Of course not! We are talking about a 1/1 superfractor of (arguably) the greatest driver of all time. And it comes from what is fast becoming the most iconic recent F1 card release. Nonetheless, I can’t help but feel the price is somewhat inflated for a non-rookie card and a PSA 7-graded one, at that.

1. 2020 Topps Chrome F1 Lewis Hamilton Silver Refractor Auto #F1A-LH /58

2020 Topps Chrome F1 Lewis Hamilton Silver Refractor Auto #F1A-LH /58
2020 Topps Chrome F1 Lewis Hamilton Silver Refractor Auto #F1A-LH /58

A PSA 10 (for the auto) is valued at $1,000,000.

Someone is selling this card on eBay for a cool million. Is that a bit optimistic? Maybe! But this one has an auto unlike the cards that have sold for the highest prices. And there is no question that the 2020 Topps Chrome F1 Lewis Hamilton Silver Refractor Auto #F1A-LH /58 looks nicer than those Superfractors. So, when it finally sells, it may break the record. Which already belongs to Hamilton.

Final Word On The Top 20 Most Valuable F1 Cards

There was fear in the collecting community that F1 cards would plummet in value after the COVID-19 card boom abated. That has not happened. There are a few reasons for that. The popularity of the sport has boomed. Thanks to the two big drivers, but also a few remarkable young prospects coming in. The cards Topps has produced in recent years have been gorgeous, becoming easily the most valuable items the sport has ever produced. Therefore, it is now pretty safe to invest in F1 cards. There is one thing to watch out for. Right now print runs are not particularly high, and that has helped keep values up. If Topps changes that, be careful investing in newer releases.
