Graded by PSA as a 10 Gem Mint card, it sold in March 2021 for $1,291,500. Believe it or not, this is still not his most valuable card on the list.
3. 2006 Upper Deck Exquisite Collection All NBA Access Triple Logoman #TL-JJB Michael Jordan/LeBron James/Kobe Bryant Game-Used Logoman Patch Card 1/1 - $1,680,000
Does this card amass the three greatest basketball players of all time? Maybe. This unique Upper Deck Exquisite Collection All NBA Access Triple Logoman card brings together perhaps the NBA’s finest players: Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, and LeBron James. If you add up their honors in the sport, you get 15 NBA Finals wins, dozens of All-Star game appearances, and almost a dozen NBA MVP awards. Frankly, these guys seem almost too amazing to all be on one card, but Upper Desk has worked out a design that features three game-used "Logoman" patches, one each from an NBA game played by the subjects. It’s an embarrassment of riches for this single card and probably why it fetched such an enormous price.
Of course, Upper Deck's Exquisite Collection is responsible for some of the most sought-after and special pieces of basketball memorabilia in the world, so it’s no surprise that this crowning achievement in their line should break the $1,000,000 line when it was brought to market. The back of the card provides a message of authenticity that was also affirmed by grading experts PSA before sale. In August 2022, this monumental card sold for $1,680,000 to one lucky collector. It’s a rare collectible that almost leads one to imagine all three of them on a team together at the same time. That’s a Dream Team to be sure.
2. 2003 Exquisite Collection LeBron James Rookie Patch Autograph Parallel #78 /23 - $5,200,000
LeBron James is “The King” on the court, but on our list of the most valuable cards of the 2000s, he’s going to have to settle for second place. That said, this 2003 Upper Deck Exquisite Collection Rookie Patch Autograph card is no slouch. The card contains a game-worn jersey patch, which adds to its value and desirability. The patch is typically multicolored and taken from a portion of LeBron's Cleveland Cavaliers jersey, with each one being unique to that card.
There are actually two versions of this card. The base version of 2003 Upper Deck Exquisite Collection #78 LeBron James was issued in a set of 99 copies and a silver Upper Deck logo. These cards have been selling for between $900,000 and $2,000,000 a piece, all in top-tier condition. The parallel version was limited to 23 copies (in honor of James’ jersey number) and shows a gold Upper Deck logo instead. This version has commanded even higher prices due to its increased scarcity. The biggest sale of the lot, however, topped those numbers by a wide margin. That PSA 10 Gem mint copy, number 7 of 23, sold for $5.2 million in April 2021, proving that the King's legacy is alive and well in the world of sports collectibles.
1. 2009 National Treasures Stephen Curry Rookie Auto Logoman - $5,900,000
The 2000s gave us the most expensive basketball card in history, and one of the more valuable sports cards ever sold. This Stephen Curry rookie card has all of the hallmarks of exclusivity and value that card manufacturers can throw into a piece of cardboard memorabilia. This is a rookie card, as it was issued in Curry’s first year of play in the NBA. The card features a game-used patch of Curry’s uniform, and it’s one with the NBA logo on it. It’s a single-population card and, of course, it’s autographed by the superstar himself. This card was designed to be worth a lot of money.
True to form, the card sold for $5.9M to an investment group, Alt Fund, who have been part of driving up the pricing of some of the most valuable sports cards out there in the last few years. In fairness, the fund does allow sports fans to invest in their fund so they own a little piece of these exceptional collectibles.
Plus, the National Treasures line included more variants, all with horizontal presentation, that have been selling for hundreds of thousands to over a million dollars. They all included uniform patches and signatures, but not the coveted NBA Logoman. If we had included separate items for each of these cards, we’d have as many Stephen Curry cards on here as we had LeBron James variants.
